Osaka - Universal & Baseball

Our day began early as we thought it was a smart idea to head to Universal Studios for when it opened, but that didn't pay off because we still had to queue for half an hour for tickets.... And so our day of queuing began.

Universal is a pretty big place and considering we went in the middle of the week we thought it would be more quiet than normal, but we were so wrong.
We decided to head to Harry Potter World first up as you had to get a seperate timed entry ticket to enter it. After getting a chocolate frog and a butterbeer (which Kristian ended up throwing out because it was that bad) we decided it was ride time... But NO the wait time for the Harry Potter roller coaster was already 190 minutes!

So of course we bailed and headed toward the Jaws ride. The queue was only about 35 minutes which is fairly decent for Universal. The ride itself was just cruising around in a boat while Jaws jumped out of the water at you, but the most entertaining part was the fact we had no idea what was going on because all the narration was in Japanese.

Now this happened on every ride we went on throughout the day, which by far was the most entertaining thing about the rides.

After our baseball game getting cancelled due to bad weather the night before we decided to buy tickets again just in case today's game actually was on. So right after a long exhausting day walking around Universal studios we headed to Koshien Stadium to see the very famous Hanshin Tigers play the Tokyo Giants.

Getting to the stadium itself was an experience. We knew the name of the stop we had to get off at but didn't realise we had to change trains to do so. Lucky there was a bunch of Tigers fans on our train car so we just got off when they did but little did we know what we were getting ourselves into. We got off the train and followed everyone directly into the train on the other side of the platform, and then it begun..... Just like in the movies and TV shows we are literally pushed and crammed into the train to the point both of us were barely touching the ground and were kind of just hanging mid air hoping for the best whilst several people's elbows were digging into our bags, ribs and other parts of our bodies.

Now I am not very claustrophobic, but it was so damn hot and cramped in that train that I just wanted out!

So it's really hard to describe the atmosphere of the baseball, the first words that come to mind are crazy and incredible.
Each player has their own song/chant that the whole stadium sings when it's their turn to bat, plus there is a whole bunch of other songs and tunes sung throught out the game. We are going to try and post a couple of videos to the blog to show you how crazy it actually was.

What made the night better was the Tigers made a come back and won which meant a lot balloons going everywhere and hi-fiving drunk businessmen.

After the game we had a mad rush to the station which was another crazy adventure of getting jammed onto the platform. But what made it worse we used most of our Yen for our train ride home so when we got back to Namba (the area we were staying) we went to get dinner but most places were shut and the ones that were open (including McDonald's) only took cash which we didn't have because we needed to change more over. So the rest of the evening was spent trying to find something for about 600 yen/$7.50 AUD that we could both eat, which turned out to be a take away fried rice and a Kit Kat which we scoffed on the bed when we finally got back to our apartment after midnight.

So I am a day or two behind on the blog but that's because of how late we got back from the baseball and we had to travel to Kyoto that next morning.
Anyway Kyoto is lovely from what we have seen so far, and I'll be sure to post more photos later today (Friday).

Hope everyone is well :)

P.s - I'll explain about the photos of the balloons, at the start of the 7th innings at the baseball the entire stadium releases balloons up into the air so that the Tigers win.
